Tucson police have identified the pedestrian who died after being hit by a truck Saturday night.

Roberto V. Romero, 50, died at the scene of the incident that occurred at about 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of West 22nd Street and South Eighth Avenue, Sgt. Maria Hawke, spokeswoman for the Tucson Police Department, said in a press release.

Romero was walking north across West 22nd Street and a pickup truck was traveling west in the median traffic lane when the accident occurred, Hawke said.

“The truck struck the pedestrian as he was crossing the roadway. Detectives were unable to determine if the pedestrian was in a crosswalk at the time that he was struck. Additionally, there were no operating streetlights at the intersection and the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing," Hawke said.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene. No citations have been issued.
