1899: Henry Fountain Ashurst, youngest member of the Territorial Legislature of Arizona and Speaker of the House, introduces House Bill 41 which creates the Northern Arizona Normal School, now Northern Arizona University at Flagstaff.

1936: The Florence High School basketball team captures three convicts who had fled over the wall of the state prison.

1960: Ernie McCray sets stil-standing University of Arizona single-game scoring record with 46 points in 104-84 victory over Los Angeles State. He makes 16 field goals and 14 free throws, also school records, and grabs 14 rebounds.
