The Arizona Registrar of Contractors caught two unlicensed contractors who did shoddy work.
In one case, Oscar Lucero accepted a $9,400 roofing job in Tucson that resulted in a leaky roof, said Tyler Palmer, the registrar’s chief of staff.
Lucero pleaded guilty last month in Pima County Justice Court to contracting without a license and advertising without a license. The registrar fined him $1,252. A lawsuit for damages is underway.
In another case, Neal Harms took $3,900 for a countertop job in Marana but never did any work or bought any materials, Palmer said.
Harms pleaded guilty last month in Justice Court to contracting without a license and advertising without a license, and he was ordered to repay the money. The registrar fined him $3,000.
Contracting without a license or advertising for services without a license is a misdemeanor.
