Tucson police are looking for two women who scammed a man out of several thousand dollars last month.

The man was in town for the annual gem show and he was staying at a downtown hotel, Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, said in a news release. Just before midnight Feb. 10, the victim received a telephone call from a man he mistook for a friend.

“The caller told the victim that his car had broken down and he needed money,” Widmer said. “The victim, believing the caller was his friend, agreed to loan the ... money.”

The caller told the victim he would send two women to the hotel to pick up the cash.

The women, who were photographed by surveillance cameras, are thought to be between 25 and 30 years old. One is described as between 5-feet-5 and 5-feet-6-inches tall and 130 to 140 pounds. She was wearing denim pants and a grey or white hoodie-type jacket. The other woman is about 5-feet-4 inches tall and 120 to 140 pounds. She was wearing a dark-color tights and a camouflage jacket.

Anyone with information about the women is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
