Police responding to a call of shots fired this afternoon caught up with the suspects when they drove by the location as officers were still on scene.
Officers were in the 5500 block of South Mission Road near West Drexel Road, when “the suspect vehicle associated with the shots fired incident drove by scene,” Sgt. Maria Hawke, spokeswoman for the Tucson Police Department, said in an email.
Officers were following the car when it got into an accident near the Spectrum shopping complex near West Irvington Road and Interstate 19.
“A gun was found in the car,” Hawke said. “The driver ran, but officers caught him a short while later in a nearby wash.”
A passenger in the suspect vehicle received minor injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital for an exam.
The original call of shots fired was likely in reference to gunfire into the air.
“There was no indication that anyone was injured as a result of the
shots being fired,” Hawke said.
