A suspect in an August sexual assault in Willcox was arrested Friday.

Phillip Livesay, 33, of Willcox, was booked into the Cochise County jail, and faces one count each of sexual assault, aggravated assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving and felony flight, and two counts of burglary in connection with an incident that occurred in August, Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department, said in a news release.

On August 19, a 34-year-old woman surprised a burglar at her boyfriend’s home about 25 miles south of Willcox. When the woman arrived at the home, she noticed a strange pickup truck backed up to the house and used her cell phone to call her boyfriend who was in Tucson. She was still on the phone with her boyfriend when she walked in the house and saw a man taking a flat screen television off the wall. When the thief saw her, knocked her down, and beat and raped her before fleeing in an distinctive pickup truck.

The boyfriend, still on the cell phone, heard her scream before the call was disconnected. He called 911, Capas said.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim lying on the living room floor. Before she was taken to the hospital, she provided a description of her attacker and his truck.

The vehicle was “a red, faded newer model Dodge truck with a distinctive rear bumper accessory with the appearance of bull testicles,” according to an earlier news release.

On Sept. 15, Cochise County sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. Instead, the driver, Livesay, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Although he wasn’t driving the red pickup, deputies were able to identify the Livesay as the suspect in the assault case and warrants were issued for his arrest.
