A man visiting from Texas who went missing while hiking Mount Lemmon Thursday morning was found Sunday and reunited with his family.

A rancher notified the Pima County Sheriff’s Department that he thought he saw someone near Davis Springs, on the north side of the Santa Catalina Mountains just before 9 a.m. Sunday and gave deputies the GPS coordinates of where the man was last seen, Deputy Jesus Bañuelos, a spokesman for the department said in a news release.

A sheriff’s department helicopter went to the location and found 54-year-old Scott Bertrand, the release said.

Bertrand was rescued and evaluated and did not need medical attention, the release said.

It was the first rescue using the department’s new helicopter and rescue hoist.

Crews from the Southern Arizona Rescue Association, Southwest Rescue Dogs Inc., Southern Arizona Mounted Search and Rescue and the Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Rescue Tucson all helped with the search for the man, which began Thursday night when his wife reported that he had not returned from a hike, the release said.
