A fire Thursday evening destroyed a southside home.

Multiple calls were made to 911 at about 5:15 p.m. reporting a house fire in the 2000 block of East Poquita Vista, off South Kino Parkway between East 36th Street and East Ajo Way.

Fire crews arrived within six minutes and the home was already “50 percent involved in flames,” Capt. Chris Jurvig, a spokesman for the Tucson Fire Department, said in a news release.

Firefighters cut a hole in the roof to vent the heavy smoke, heat and gasses and allow crews better visibility inside the home, Jurvig said.

Two adults and a child living in the home escaped the blaze unharmed.

It took 11 units and 26 firefighters 12 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The home was a total loss. Damage is estimated at $100,000, Jurvig said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
