Drexel Heights Fire District crews evaluated 13 people involved in the crash. Only one person was transported to a Tucson hospital with minor injuries, Tracy Koslowski, spokeswoman for the fire district said.

“The crash occurred when one vehicle hit a patch of ice and lost control,” Koslowski said. “This incident did not result in more injuries because drivers were already cautiously slowing down due to ice patches on the interstate. Some of the vehicle drivers also said they pulled their emergency brakes instead of slamming on the brake pedal.”

The interstate is now open, although there is still some residual traffic congestion.
