In an effort to help car owners guard against car theft, the town of Marana, the Marana Police Department and State Farm Insurance are getting together to offer free vehicle identification number (VIN) etching on windows.

The measure deters theft, police say, because car thieves have trouble selling parts with VINs etched on them.

The event goes from 9 a.m. to noon at 9100 N. Silverbell Road.
