The Catalina Mountain Elks Lodge No. 2815 entered a team dubbed Drowning Elks into the Tucson Special Olympics Polar Plunge event March 2, placing second and collecting $2,400 in donations.

Fifteen teams competed in the event, which took place at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center and featured costumed contestants taking a dip in the water.

Arizona Elks Association Special Olympics Committee Chairman Lee Cook collected the most donations with $1,500. Lecturing Knight Gloria Cisneros won second place for best female costume; while lodge member Doug Harpold and his son, Isaiah, placed third for their costumes.

The event raised a total of $13,980, with proceeds benefiting Special Olympic athletes with disabilities in Arizona.
