Basis Oro Valley student Benjamin Horwitz is headed to Washington, DC as a delegate in the United States Senate Youth Program. Horwitz will receive a $5,000 scholarship and participate in a weeklong event in which he and other delegates will study the federal government.
Horwitz will participate in the program, which was established in 1962, in Washington March 9-16. He is president of the school's National Honor Society and involved in several school committees.
“The problems Ben decides to solve stand little chance of defeating his dogged determination and sharpened work ethic. And Ben does not shy away from a challenge,” Basis head of school Sean Aiken said in a news release.
In Washington, Horwitz and the other delegates will attend meetings with Senators and Congressional staff, a Supreme Court Justice and President Barack Obama.
