One of my favorite parts of the summer monsoon is watching lightning streak across the desert sky. Little did I know, lightning experts also flock here to study these sky shows.

VAISALA Inc. operates the Tucson-based National Lightning Detection Network, which monitors cloud-to-ground lightning activity across the continental United States, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This network has recorded more than 160 million lightning flashes since 1989, and the data is used in weather forecasting, air traffic control and other applications.

We're excited to be joined by VAISALA meteorologist Ron Holle this Wednesday at noon for a live chat. He'll be taking your lightning questions and sharing some safety tips, too.
