The public is invited to an end-of-life conference next month featuring bestselling author Dr. Ira Byock.
The 12th annual Casa de la Luz Foundation End of Life Conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave.

Byock, a palliative-care physician, will be the keynote speaker. He is expected to talk about how the health-care community needs to respond in newer and more innovative ways to change how we treat serious and chronic illness.
The theme of the conference is “Dying in America: Ensuring the Best Care Possible.” Each year, the conference seeks to address the state of death and dying in America.
Byock, a professor at Dartmouth Medical School, argues that how we die is among the biggest national crises facing us today. He is the author of the book “Dying Well,” which won a Peabody award for journalism.
