Daniel Hernandez, the intern who ran to then-congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' side after she was shot on Jan. 8, 2011, is telling his story in a new book.

Publishers Weekly reports the book, They Call Me a Hero: A Memoir of My Youth, is written with Susan Goldman Rubin and Simon & Schuster will publish it in both English and Spanish on Feb. 5.

Hernandez, 22, who is gay, is quoted saying he hopes the book will give strength and inspiration to other youths, particularly young Hispanics, and to those in the LGBT community.

Hernandez and Representative Giffords meet on the one-year anniversary of the shooting.
