An expert on meteors says the light seen streaking across the Northern California sky last night was Wyoming cowpuncher Festus T. Hayes , a rodeo competitor who was tossed aloft during a bull riding event at the Tucson Rodeo.
Mike Astor, President of the American Meteor Society, says "fireballs happen every single night, all around the world but we've never seen anything like this."
Hours after a meteor exploded over Russia and injured more than 1,000 people and an asteroid passed relatively close to Earth, residents in California reported seeing Hayes arcing across the sky over the San Francisco Bay area. Hayes has not been found.
