You might remember a brief we wrote back in December about a couple who was arrested on armed robbery charges after a phone app led the victims and police right to them.

Well, it turns out there's a lot more to know about that couple.

On Dec. 22, two teenaged girls were robbed at gunpoint by a man and a woman in a sports utility vehicle as they were walking down the road. The guy made them get on the ground and took their smartphone, wallets and identifications.

One of the girls called her brother, who activated an application on the phone that allowed him to track its location. That led him to the El Camino Motel, 297 E. Benson Highway, where he saw the SUV and flagged down a South Tucson police officer.

Police found the phone, one of the girls' IDs, a .45 handgun stolen in 2006 and several baggies of pot. They also discovered the SUV had been stolen two days earlier.

The police arrested Irene Garcia, 23, and Daniel Morales, aka Ty Colton Moreno, 22.

They were later indicted on several charges, including armed robbery, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft of means of transportation and possession of marijuana for sale.

During a routine records check, I found out that Moreno is also facing eight charges in a home invasion that took place 16 days prior to the armed robbery.

According to court documents, a 12-year-old boy took a sick day from school and was home when two men kicked in his front door. One of them held a gun to his head as the other ransacked his house.

When his mom got home from the store, the men held her at gunpoint too.

The men fled in a stolen van, taking the boy's laptop and prescription medications.

Five days later, police found the prescription medications in a backpack containing Moreno's prison paperwork and the boy picked Moreno out as the guy who held the gun to his head.

Garcia is accused of twice pawning jewelry taken from the boy's home.

Moreno's criminal record extends back pretty far.

According to court documents, Moreno was one of a group of people who robbed three people of an iPod, cell phone, $120 and clothing while they were walking down the road in January 2008.

Moreno was placed on three years' probation in May 2008 after admitting his guilt. At the time, he told a probation officer he wanted to "apologize to the victims and their families. He hoped that they could forgive him because he understands how worried and concerned they must be for their safety."

The 16 or 17-year-old Moreno absconded from probation five months later.

He ended up getting arrested in January 2009 for burglarizing one home, trying to kick in the door of a second home while the homeowner watched through a peephole and entering a third home through a window. All three incidents took place within minutes of each other.

Moreno was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for the May 2008 robberies.

Then, on April 27, 2009, he was sentenced to 3.5 years in the multiple burglary case. (He pleaded guilty to one count of burglary.)

He again apologized for frightening his victims.

The two sentences concurrently with each other.

According to court documents, Moreno's mother had multiple children with multiple men, none of whom provided child support. She was forced to work multiple jobs and get government assistance.

His mother was reported as a victim in at least 16 domestic assaults and CPS investigated the family at least 10 times, court records state.

Court documents dating from May 2008 indicate Moreno's mother and most of his siblings had criminal records and alcohol/drug issues.

The first time Moreno was placed on probation, he was 12.
