The husband of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was supposed to fly in this weekend's Reno air show, which was cancelled because of a deadly crash.

Giffords' spokesman Mark Kimble said retired astronaut Mark Kelly was in Reno for the annual aviation event as a guest of the Breitling watch company. He was supposed to perform acrobatics in the same type of 1940s-era plane that crashed Friday, killing eight spectators and the pilot.

The Arizona congresswoman, who is in Houston recovering from an assassination attempt Jan. 8, was not in Reno with her husband, Kimble said. He added that Kelly was not at the event when the crash occurred.
