1864: Gov. John Noble Goodwin instructs U.S. Marshal Milton B. Duffield to take the first Arizona Territorial census.

1881: The city of Phoenix is incorporated with a population of 1,780.

1994: Capt. Ellen McKinnon arrives at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base for training on the A-10/OA-10 Thunderbolt II. She's the first woman to take combat pilot training at D-M.
