MV science teacher earns fellowship
The National Science Teachers Association selected Mountain View High School science teacher Tarah Dahl as a Dow-NSTA Fellow in the 2012 NSTA New Science Teacher Academy.
Dahl was chosen from among hundreds of applicants, and was the only teacher from the state to be chosen. She'll join 243 other honorees in a yearlong professional development program meant to improve science teaching, teacher content knowledge and other teaching skills.
"We are thrilled to provide these teachers with the resources and support needed to help them feel confident and passionate about the critical work they do in inspiring today's youth to become tomorrow's leading STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) professionals," NSTA interim Executive Director Gerry Wheeler said in a news release.
Fellows were chosen based on scientific background and interest in growing as a science educator. As part of the fellowship, Dahl will receive financial support to take part in the NSTA's 2013 National Conference on Science Education in San Antonio April 11-14.
