FLAGSTAFF — Poor water quality at Slide Rock State Park means swimmers will have to stay out.
It’s the first swimming ban of the season but likely not the last, The Arizona Daily Sun reports.
Water samples taken this week show high levels of fecal coliform bacteria.
The park says further tests will determine whether the swimming ban can be lifted Wednesday.
The popular area just outside Sedona has a history of water quality problems during the summer months because of human waste and improper trash disposal.
The amount of E.coli in Oak Creek at times has hit 500 times what the state says is acceptable.
