A family-oriented concert tonight at Palo Verde High School will feature musicians from several local schools performing with members of the Tucson Concert Band, a community band serving the Tucson area since the mid-1960s.
The concert, titled "Side by Side," will start at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the school, 1302 S. Avenida Vega.
"This is the first time TCB will be performing a program specifically geared toward families and children. Likewise, it is the first time our band will have the opportunity to perform alongside students from several different schools," said Lorelei Allison Conrad, the band's musical director and conductor.
"What a wonderful way to bring together performers from generations apart to work toward one common goal: making the best and most beautiful music humanly possible."
Conrad will share the podium with the band's associate conductor, Arno Dittrich, and with school band directors Jessica England of Cholla High School, Suzanne Sommerhalter of Doolen Middle School and Erin Hepler of the San Manuel school district.
Approximately 15 students from their schools' band programs and from the Palo Verde High School band will be performing.
The concert is free and open to the public, although donations are accepted.
Palo Verde High School is on the south side of East 22nd Street a block west of South Kolb Road. The auditorium is at the southeast corner of the school, and there is plenty of parking in a fenced lot on the south side of the school.
