The recipient of this week's Ben's Bell is Judy Glore, founder of Happy Equine Acres Rescue and Therapy (HEART).
She was nominated by Erica Reid, who said Glore started the nonprofit in 2009.
"Judy started rescuing horses from desperate circumstances, horses that have been abused, abandoned or owner-relinquished, nursing them back to health, training them and finding permanent homes for them," Reid wrote in her nomination.
"She has done this out of the kindness of her heart, and since the nonprofit has started has never drawn a salary for her good work."
Glore recently was diagnosed with lung cancer, but that hasn't stopped her from caring for the horses.
"Volunteers have been tending to the day-to-day operations at HEART while Judy undergoes her treatments. In between her treatments, even when she is feeling rough, Judy still continues to run HEART of Tucson," Reid wrote.
"She is selfless and puts the horses' needs before her own."
