Lucille L. (Brooks) Day

passed peacefully on the evening of July 15, 2013 at her home in Tucson, AZ. Mrs. Day was born on February 27, 1922 in Comanche, Texas. In 1943 at the age of 21, Lucille enlisted in the US Army. "Brooksie", served as a vehicle driver, delivering documents and transporting officers on post. Mrs. Day was one of the first members of the WAAC, Women's Auxiliary Army Corp., and the WAC, Women's Army Corp. Mrs. Day served at Freeman Field, Indiana and at Harlingen Army Airfield, Texas. Corporal Lucille L. Brooks was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned home to Texas to attend cosmetology school. Lucille married Raymond Day, another WWII veteran in 1947. They raised their three children in Ruidoso, New Mexico. In 1969 Lucille retired at the death of their only son, Brooks Wendell Day. The couple celebrated 56 years of marriage. In 2003, Lucille moved to Tucson to be near her oldest daughter, LeAnn Kysar and her granddaughter, Capree and husband, Isaac Farrell; great-granddaughter, Kyla Paige and great-grandson, Aiden James. Also left to remember Lucille is her youngest daughter, Cincy and husband, Bobby Ferguson of Odessa, Texas; granddaughter, Katherine Hughes and great-granddaughter, Samantha Raye, of Monahans, Texas; step-daughter, Lelaine Mohrman of Manteca, CA; granddaughter, Kim Kysar and husband, Terry Easley of Tucson; great-granddaughter, Nicole Sirrine and husband, Mike along with great-great-grandson, Zachary, of Kaiserslaughtern, Germany; sister, JoJo Harris and husband "Bud" of Lometa, Texas. Lucille's Celebration of Life Service will be held in her hometown of Lometa, and her final resting place will be with her husband and son in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
