Gregorio "Goyo" V. Basurto

92, born September 5, 1920 in Tucson, AZ, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, and was reunited with his loving wife Armida G. Basurto on July 9, 2013. He is also preceded in death by parents Francisco and Josefa Basurto, siblings Ramona Hernandez, Manuelita Saenz, Bertha Castro, Armando Basurto and Frank Basurto. Survived by son, Tony (Suzanne) Basurto; daughter, Sandra Basurto; granddaughter, Melissa (Manuel) Mendibles; great-grandson, David Mendibles; brother, Ernesto (Carmen) Basurto; sisters, Sofia Wheeler, Delia Jacques; and numerous nieces and nephews. Goyo proudly served in the U.S. Army, 502nd Quartermaster Co., Third Army led by General Patton during World War II. A recounted story--Gen. Patton's jeep tore around the corner of a European barn, and nearly collided with Goyo's truck hidden behind it. He chewed out Goyo, until a Sgt. who had been looking for eggs came out of the barn. Gen. Patton saw who was really in charge, so he apologized to Goyo. Services will be held Friday, July 26, 2013 at Santa Cruz Church with Rosary at 10:30 a.m., Mass at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Holy Hope Cemetery.
