Esther N Capin
Esther N Capin died peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the age of 78. A woman of deep integrity, she was known for her intelligence, objectivity, generosity and kindness. She spent her life in dedication to her family and the community at large, serving as a lay person on the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners and serving on the Arizona Board of Regents for sixteen years. She was a founding chair member of The University of Arizona Health Center where she served as a board member for 24 years. Born in Chicago and raised in Los Angeles, she moved to Nogales, Arizona in 1955 when she wed Richard L Capin. She raised five children and was instrumental in developing mental health services for the Nogales community as well as a modern public library. From this time forward, she continued to serve the larger community as well as lend personal support to many who sought her wisdom and guidance. She is survived by her children, Donna M Capin, MD, Norman A Capin, Elizabeth Capin Keith (Gordon), James B Capin (Victoria), and Bonnie Capin Dunnum (Russell). She is survived by her sisters, Rayna Gellman and Roberta Bracker as well as her sister-in-law, Frances Freid; her devoted companion, Jack Marks, MD and ten grandchildren. A Memorial Service is planned for Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 225 N. Country Club Road, Tucson, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Esther N Capin and Richard L Capin Endowment Fund, Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, 2250 E. Broadway Boulevard, Tucson, Arizona 85719.
