Dr. Jose Luis Hurtado
Our loving friend, brother, uncle, father and husband, Dr. Jose Luis Hurtado, left us to be with our Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2013. Dr. Jose Luis Hurtado was born in Douglas, Arizona on June 16, 1956 to Fernando and Gloria Hurtado. He is survived by his wife Dr. Ana Luisa Rosales and their children, Diana Victoria and Eduardo Jose. His siblings include brothers, Raul, Gustavo and Hector Hurtado; sisters, Ana Celia Jimenez, Martha Dufour and Gloria Redman. Also Dora and Carmen Maria Melcher; father and mother-in-law, Rodolfo and Rosita Rosales; brothers-in-law, Daniel and Rudy R. Rosales, Jr. Dr. Hurtado is preceded in death by his parents, Fernando and Gloria Hurtado. Dr. Jose Luis Hurtado, affectionately known to family and friends as "Pepe", was an accomplished physician who was Board Certified in Internal Medicine and in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He excelled in all his endeavors from a young age and all throughout his career as a physician. He was known for his dedication, compassion and kindness to his patients. His undergraduate education was completed at the University of Arizona with degrees in microbiology and medical technology. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1983 and completed an internal medicine residency here in Tucson followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Hurtado joined the medical staff of Tucson Gastroenterology Specialists in 1988, and was in medical practice in Tucson for 25 years. He served in multiple hospital department-head positions at Tucson Medical Center and at St. Joseph's Hospital throughout the years. Dr. Jose Luis Hurtado lead a distinguished career and enjoyed spending time traveling with his family and friends. He was a cherished and extraordinary husband and father to his wife, Ana and his children, Diana and Lalo. Dr. Hurtado will be remembered by his family as one who dedicated his life's journey to insuring that all those around him were well cared for. He loved his family and had many nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was known for his humor, kindness and generosity to all. Dr. Hurtado was an avid reader and often penned encouraging words to his children. He especially enjoyed traveling with his children to extraordinary destinations of learning and to the islands of Hawaii. They will cherish these wonderful memories forever. Dr. Hurtado enjoyed the peacefulness of gardening and was known for planting beautiful rose gardens, succulents, vegetable gardens and citrus trees. He had a passion for cooking extraordinary meals for all those he loved. Dr. Hurtado also enjoyed eating out at some local restaurants such as Yamato's, Cafe Poca Cosa and Casa Vicente to name a few. He made it a point to graciously thank the chef and staff at every visit. Vigil Service for this humble and extraordinary gentleman will begin with Rosary on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5150 North Valley View Road, Tucson, Arizona.
