CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A cast member of the MTV reality show “BUCKWILD” has been arrested in West Virginia on felony drug charges.
Salwa Amin, 24, was arrested late Sunday night at a residence in Summersville by a multi-agency task force. Officers obtained a search warrant and went to the residence of Jason Jones after receiving a tip from an informant. A search found oxycodone pills, heroin and $3,000 in cash, West Virginia State Police Capt. B.L. Mankins said Monday in a statement.
Jones, 24, and Shawn Booke, 41, of Detroit also were arrested.
Amin, Jones and Booker were each charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a felony. They were being held Monday at the Central Regional Jail on $200,000 bond each following arraignments in Nicholas County Magistrate Court.
Amin did not want to talk to the media, Jail Administrative Sgt. Rick Drake said. He did not now know if she had a lawyer.
MTV did not have any comment on Amin’s arrest, a network spokeswoman Candice Ashton said.
MTV announced last week that “BUCKWILD” will be picked up for a second season. The first season’s finale aired Thursday night.
MTV had said that the half-hour series was pulling in an average of 3 million viewers per episode since its premier in January and is the No. 1 original cable series on Thursday nights among 12- to 34-year-olds.
“BUCKWILD” was filmed largely around Sissonville and Charleston. It followed nine friends, including Amin, who find sometimes frightening ways to fill their free time beyond clubbing in Morgantown and four-wheeling in the mud. They’ve turned a dump truck into a swimming pool and built their own water slide.
U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and other critics have said the show is a negative portrayal of West Virginia’s young people. Manchin asked the network in December to cancel the show.
