Just when you thought all things Hogwarts and Harry Potter were so passé, the Pima County Public Library and Bookmans want you to dust off your wizard wear and join them for a party that celebrates music and reading.
Pioneering wizard rockers Harry and the Potters return for a family-friendly concert at Hotel Congress tonight.
The concert is the highlight of an evening that also includes:
• A photo booth with costumed characters and themed merchandise courtesy of Bookmans.
• "Wizards Chess" hosted by 9 Queens.
• Lessons by Katana Games on how to play the video version of Quidditch.
• Various vendors, including Silver Seas, which specializes in mystical jewelry; Seven Cups, divining the future through tea-leaf readings; and the University of Arizona Potter Alliance, which will have information on social-justice issues.
The all-ages event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Hotel Congress, 311 E. Congress St. Admission is free and those attending are encouraged to wear costumes. The concert starts at 6.
This is the second year that the Pima County Public Library has invited Harry and the Potters to perform in support of the library's summer literacy promotion. The punk band is comprised of brothers Paul and Joe DeGeorge, who have played more than 500 shows since setting out in 2002.
