The highly anticipated Bisbee Royale will open its doors in early August.

Tucson blues band Buzz and the Soul Senders will open the venue Aug. 2 followed Aug. 3 by Howe Gelb and his Giant Giant Sand.

The live-entertainment club will then be open daily from 4 to midnight, said Doug Biggers, the former Rialto Theatre executive director who is spearheading the new venture.

Biggers and his partners have spent the better part of this year renovating the historic building, which was built in 1918 as the First Baptist Church of Bisbee. Most recently, it was home to the Old Bisbee Repertory Theater.

Gelb and Giant Giant Sand are set to perform Gelb's latest work, "Tucson: A Country Rock Opera." Consider this a prelude to the band's European tour that will take it through the rest of the summer. Tucson's own Brian Lopez will join the tour, which kicks off in Amsterdam Aug. 13 and includes dates in the United Kingdom, Austria and Germany.
