When the Statler Brothers called it quits in 2002, longtime tenor Jimmy Fortune wasn't quite through with his singing career.

After 21 years as part of the legendary country quartet, he took the group's retirement as an opportunity to branch out on his own. He signed with a boutique record label and released his debut solo album "When One Door Opens" in 2003.

He's put out three more albums since then, including a gospel package, and continues to write and tour. (His pen was responsible for several of the Statler Brothers biggest hits including a trio of No. 1s -"Elizabeth," "My Only Love" and "Too Much On My Heart.")

Fortune's tour brings him to Tucson's Voyager RV Resort ballroom, 8701 S. Kolb Road, for a show at 7 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $17 by calling Voyager, 574-6100.

Fortune also will perform two shows - 4 and 7:30 p.m. - Saturday at DesertViewPerforming Arts Center, 39900 S. Clubhouse Drive, in SaddleBrooke. Tickets are $21 in advance at tickets.saddlebrooketwo.com or $23 at the door.
