The Fat Greek at 994 E. University Blvd. had to close unexpectedly last weekend due to extensive damage caused by a broken water pipe.

Owner George Markou will reopen as soon as restoration is complete, said Jane McCollum, the general manager of Main Gate Square. She estimated that could take at least a couple of weeks.

My Fat Greek, located across from the University of Arizona's main gate, has been serving Greek fare near campus for at least a decade.

On his website (www.thefatgreek.biz), Markou urges diners to "bear with us during this difficult time and support our other location": Fat Greek 2 Greek Taverna, located at 3225 N. Swan Road in the Bashas' Shopping Center.

Classes begin at the UA on Aug. 20.
