Yogurtland to open in Campbell Plaza

Yogurtland, one of the nation's fastest-growing self-serve frozen yogurt chains, plans to open its first shop in Tucson early next month.

The shop will be in the Campbell Plaza shopping center at 2800 N. Campbell Ave.

The Irvine, Calif.-based chain opened in 2006 and has grown to about 200 locations throughout the United States, including several in the Phoenix area.

Yogurtland sold 49 million cups of yogurt last year, a company official said.

Old Chicago unveils latest menu changes

Old Chicago Tucson rolled out the latest phase of its new menu this week, ditching wraps and adding paninis.

Also gone: steak and shrimp, which weren't exactly high-demand items, said Old Chicago's newly installed manager, Stacy Ethington.

The menu overhaul - which comes ahead of physical renovations planned for the restaurant at 2960 N. Campbell Ave., in coming months - is part of a companywide plan to redevelop the Old Chicago brand.

"Everything is made in-house and everything is made from scratch," he said on Monday, the day the Colorado-based chain unveiled the changes.

Ethington said more changes will come in January and again in March, leaving Old Chicago with an entirely new menu next spring.

"We took what was an $8 sandwich and turned it into an $8 panini that is twice as good," he said. "It's just a better quality of food for the same price."

The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily; it opens at 10 a.m. Sundays during the football season.

Smashburger is now open in Tucson

After months of anticipation, Tucson burger fanatics can rejoice: The latest, big-new-thing in Tucson's burger boom had a private opening Monday.

Smashburger began grilling up juicy patties for the public at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the space that was once home to Buddy's Grill at 4821 E. Grant Road.

About the name: The patties are rolled as meatballs and then smashed before grilling.

The restaurant, which shares space with Paradise Bakery, is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Coming soon - a small sign announcing that Wild Garlic Grill would be opening at 2530 N. First Ave., most recently home to Three and a Half Brothers Cafe.
