A big banner over the recently closed Benihana of Tucson announces that Mr. An’s, offering teppan steak, seafood and a sushi bar, is coming soon.

May 1, to be exact, said restaurateur Kwang C. An, who owned Sakura West in that spot at 6091 N. Oracle Road from 2001 to 2006. Benihana was there for about four years.

An owns the Great Wall of China restaurant at 2445 S. Craycroft Road and plans to open An Congress downtown on the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue and East Congress Street in November.

That restaurant will feature a mix of American and Asian food and a rooftop patio. It will serve food 11 a.m. to midnight daily.

Mr. An’s and An Congress will each employ 100 people, An said.

In fact, Mr. An’s will be interviewing prospective employees from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Oracle Road restaurant.

An also plans a fundraiser for Tu Nidito, a charitable organization, before the public grand opening.
