Bruce Willis attempts to regain his action-star form in "Hostage," which opens Friday. Any true Willis fan must be familiar with these films:

Die Hard (1988)

- Willis' breakout role found him as a police officer who romped through a skyscraper to defeat terrorists and rescue his estranged wife.

The Last Boy Scout (1991)

- Teaming with Damon Wayans, Willis plays a hard-boiled detective who works with a struggling former quarterback to solve a murder.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

- In limited screen time, Willis is memorable as a punch-drunk boxer who agrees to take a dive, then bets money on himself to win.

Twelve Monkeys (1995)

- In what may be his most "out there" film, Willis plays a convict who is sent back in time to stop a plague. After he makes the time leap, he's labeled insane and institutionalized.

The Fifth Element (1997)

- Sticking with sci-fi, Willis plays a future cabdriver who attempts to stop marauding aliens from destroying the planet.

Last Man Standing (1996)

- Willis is at his gruff best in this Western, in which he plays a drifter who works both sides of opposing mobs to benefit himself.

The Sixth Sense (1999)

- In probably his most highly regarded film, Willis plays a counselor who helps a young boy (Haley Joel Osment) who can see ghosts.
