The new Whole Foods Market at River and Craycroft roads opens tomorrow and instead of just dashing in for a package of quinoa to fix for dinner, you might just find yourself having a meal —or two or three — right there.
The 36,000-square-foot store, 5555 E. River Road, opens its doors at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Instead of a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Whole Foods will have a “bread breaking,” said marketing supervisor Kristin Stankus. The first 100 people in line will get a demi baguette.
Along with all the grocery goodies, Whole Foods boasts everything from a juice and smoothie bar to an in-house pizza oven, turning out pies that can be ordered ahead, purchased by the slice or already boxed to-go. More dining options: a sandwich shop and taqueria that use organic produce, a gelato station and an in-store bar.
Yup, you read that right: a bar.
The space — just east of the 47-foot-long case of beers — has two flat-screen TVs, and people can order pub food. The bar offers wine as well as nine local beers on tap. There’s even a growler station, so you can bring your favorite brews home.
The store has indoor and outdoor seating, including roll-up garage doors to take advantage of our usually warm weather.
Other notable features:
• a coffee roaster
• a meat smoker
• whole fish that can be cleaned and prepared to order
• local products from more than 43 vendors across the state.
Regular store hours are 8 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. Check their Facebook page to learn about specials.
