Up for a bit of a discussion? Sure you are, and here's a compelling one: "Vanishing Islands: Culture and Climate Change," a panel discussion co-sponsored by UApresents and the Institute of the Environment at the University of Arizona.

It's an hour of important talk about an important subject. It happens at noon Friday at the Center for Creative Photography auditorium, in the UA Fine Arts Complex near East Speedway and North Park Avenue.

Then, Friday night, catch "Water is Rising" at 8 at Centennial Hall, 1020 E. University Blvd. on the UA campus. The concert brings 36 artists from the Pacific island countries of Kiribati, Tokelau and Tuvalu. The islands are threatened by global warming and climate change - the performance will show one reason why that shouldn't happen. A few of the artists will perform at the panel discussion.

The discussion is free, the performance is $18-$38, with discounts available. Tickets at www.uapresents.org or 621-3341.
