Several flights to Tucson International Airport were diverted and at least two departures were canceled today because of stormy conditions, but most afternoon flights were unaffected or simply delayed.
No flights were allowed to land between 12:15 p.m. and 2 p.m. due to poor visibility, but flights did take off during that period, TIA spokeswoman Katy Smith said, adding that at least two flights were diverted to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Nine flights due to arrive between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. were diverted from Tucson, including four from Denver (Skywest, United, US Airways, Air Canada) two each from Chicago (American, British Airways) Dallas (American, British Airways) and one from Albuquerque (Southwest), according to Flightstats.com.
Two 12:55 p.m. departures from Tucson to Phoenix (Mesa Airlines, US Airways) were canceled, while some other afternoon departures were delayed, the website reported.
Operations at TIA returned to normal after the diversion period, Smith said, advising travelers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information.
