The owners of Civano Nursery want to add something a little different to an already distinctive Tucson development.
Civano Nursery, 5301 S. Houghton Road, wants the city's Planning and Development Services Department to approve minor changes to its planned area development (PAD) zoning plan to allow additional uses including a new office building, expanded display areas, shade structures and walkways.
A café and small health-food store also are proposed for the nursery site.
A neighborhood meeting is planned for Aug. 18 where more details of the proposal will be available for neighbors.
Following that, city planning officials likely will give the go-ahead to Civano for the requested amendment. Because the proposal is for a minor amendment to the PAD, only an administrative approval is needed.
Even with the approval, the plan might not be completed for another two years.
The only other issue nursery owners faced was with a proposed new entrance from Houghton Road. Tucson Department of Transportation officials notified Civano owners as far back as 2008 that the proposal fits within the criteria of the widening project that will increase the roadway to six lanes when completed.
