Two new additions are continuing the trend of a reinvigorated downtown Tucson.

BizAnytime, a software company that provides bundled, cloud-based services to make it easier to work remotely, has decided to relocate closer to the burgeoning tech scene downtown, said CEO and founder Leif Hartwig.

Hartwig said organizations already downtown, such as Startup Tucson and Gangplank, are fueling a technology renaissance in the region.

He hopes the move from the Foothills will allow his company (formerly known as 5050Biz) to collaborate more often with other tech-savvy individuals.

“The future of Tucson is high-tech,” Hartwig said. “We wanted to be closer to the technology people … so it made sense to move downtown.”

The company’s new address will be 124 W. Cushing St., and it will move in this Friday. It is currently at La Paloma Corporate Center, 3561 E. Sunrise Drive.

BizAnytime joins another Tucson company that recently expanded downtown.

CyraCom International, Inc., a language services company, opened a business-development office in the Pioneer Building at 100 S. Stone Ave.

CyraCom employs nearly 1,000 people in Arizona, 500 based in Tucson.

CyraCom’s other Tucson facilities include a corporate office at 5780 N. Swan Road and an interpreter contact center on Elvira Road near the Tucson Airport.

Since 2008, the downtown area has seen 34 new restaurants, 27 shops, 12 art and cultural projects, 14 offices, nine health and wellness centers, at least nine high-tech businesses or business incubators, eight housing projects, six bars or nightclubs, five bakeries, two coffee shops, two salons, two schools, one craft brewery, one entertainment venue expansion and one hospitality renovation, according to data compiled by the Downtown Tucson Partnership.

“What is extraordinary about this unprecedented turnaround is how it has completely transformed the urban environment downtown,“ said Michael Keith, CEO of the Downtown Tucson Partnership, in a news release. “The vision that so many of us have had for so long, of an authentic downtown for everyone, with a wide variety of housing projects, markets, and beautiful outdoor spaces suddenly seems attainable in a way that was unimaginable even a few years ago.”

In addition, Keith anticipates about 17 new projects and businesses will crop up downtown in 2014.

If those projects materialize, it will amount to another $100 million of private investment placed into downtown development.

“This is the downtown we’ve been waiting for, and it feels like the party’s just getting started,” Keith said.
